The Dream, who will face the Golden State Valkyries in the best-of-seven series, are scheduled to host Games 3, 4 and 6 (if necessary) on Oct. 22, 24 and 29. The Dream's home arena since 2021 has been Gateway Center Arena at College Park, which holds only 3,500 fans. That small capacity is a concern for the Finals, but at this point, the Dream have not said if they have secured a larger facility. Dream president and chief operating officer Morgan Shaw Parker, speaking to the media last week, said the team was "finalizing details on their home venue and where we will be playing" for the Finals. The Dream and the WNBA did not offer further details Sunday when contacted by ESPN. The Valkyries will host Games 1, 2, and also 5 and 7 (if necessary) at their home, the Chase Center in San Francisco, which has a capacity of 18,064. This year, the Dream moved five regular-season home games and all three of their previous home playoff games to State Farm Arena in downtown Atlanta -- which will also be the team's full-time home next season. The capacity there is 17,044. But State Farm is booked with a Sombr concert on Oct. 22 and Atlanta Hawks regular-season games on Oct. 24 and 29. The Dream previously were based at State Farm (then known as Philips Arena) from the franchise's inception in 2008 to 2016. Refurbishments at the arena led to the Dream playing at Georgia Tech's McCamish Pavilion in 2017-2018. The arena's name was changed to State Farm in 2019, and the Dream returned there for that season. Then the Dream relocated to the much smaller Gateway Center in 2021. But the WNBA's and the Dream's increased popularity have prompted the move back to State Farm starting in 2027. The Washington Mystics played three games of the 2019 WNBA Finals at their home, CareFirst Arena, which seats 4,200. That was the last time the WNBA Finals were played at a venue that had fewer than 8,000 seats except 2020, when the entire WNBA season was played in a COVID-19 bubble facility without fans in Bradenton, Florida. Several playoff games, including in the WNBA Finals, have been played in alternate venues during the league's 30-season history because of facility conflicts or renovations, but that hasn't been the case in recent years. The Dream hosted a 2013 WNBA Finals game at the Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia. That facility is now known as Gas South Arena and seats around 13,000. There also have been WNBA Finals games played at college arenas such as Eastern Michigan (2008), University of Illinois Chicago (2014), USC (2016), Minnesota (2017) and George Mason (2018).
